Touring Seoul

The temperature was in the 40s F. We bundled up and headed out. Dan wanted to look at some of the buildings down in the CBD. They have a great subway system built for the Olympics 20 years ago. Later we went to the War Memorial commemorating the Korean War fought in the 50s. I was expecting more display on the American involvement. While all of the planes and war weapons displayed were all American made/owned, everything regarding the actually fighting only mentioned Korean involvement. I guess the American in me wanted to see more appreciation for the sacrifice we made to help them maintain a free society. It is amazing what the country has been able to do in 50 years. The war ended in an armistice agreement. Today on the border of North and South Korea there is a DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) about 50 miles wide, which is one of the purest nature locations in the World. Natural plants and animals have thrived there from being left alone. That would be an interesting place to see. They also have a watch tower with a couple of high powered telescopes to get a glimpse into North Korea, and if you're lucky you can see school children coming in/out of class. North Korea, for the most part, is closed to outsiders. This memorial displayed the lines of battle: first soldiers with weapons/uniforms, soldiers without, men, women, children, the elderly. Again I would have thought they would have included some American soldiers, but all of the faces were Korean.
